NuForm

Hybrid presence

2021–2022

Triggered by the pandemic, the research project investigates new ways to bring physical and digital museum experience together, enabling hybrid presence in bespoke environments.

Together with the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, we focussed on understanding the essential qualities of human interaction during guided tours in a museum. Instead of focussing on explicit stories and translating them to digital experiences, we developed a series of prototypes that enable new kinds of interactions across space, creating a sense of authenticity and presence.

The resulting approaches intertwine digital and physical aspects instead of seeing them as parallel realities. Our hybrid communication and interaction concepts allow visitors to get involved, to communicate with each other and to discuss the exhibits — whether they are wandering through the museum building or sitting at home on their computer.
