Kinetic Rain

Digital choreography in physical medium

2012 · Singapore

Reinterpreting the historic iconic mylar chords fountain in the Terminal 1 of Changi Airport, Kinetic Rain is two choreographed fields of 608 copper coated light-weight aluminum droplets attached to servomotors that move in dialogue through a fifteen-minute choreographed narrative, evolving from abstract to figurative three-dimensional forms.

Merging industrial motor assembly and software control with highly aesthetic choreographed movement, the enabling technology and artistic expression are in an inseparable dialogue.

Over the years the artwork has become a key visual motif of the Changi Airports brand identity, seizing travelers' attention for short moments of magic.
