Body mnemonics is an interaction design concept for portable devices that builds on the memory aid system called the Method of Loci, where information can be stored in different locations in space. The body of the user functions as this space.

By moving the portable device into different places around one's body, different functionality can be triggered in the device. For example, online banking data could be accessed from the back pocket.

The meaningful arrangement of the data depends on the individual's personal body image, a cultural construct of the meaning associated to the body parts. Tattoos, religious outlook, cultural conventions, fashion and such influence this construct. The access of information relies on the user's proprioceptive sense, leaving visual attention to navigating the space in mobile scenario.
